I went to a middle school in Dusseldorf called ‘Dalton Middle School’. It was an unusual open-plan, honey comb shape and I went there from the age of 9 to 13yrs old. Both my mum and dad worked at the school, which meant that I had to behave, or every move would be reported back. I had a particular teacher whom I was suitably terrified of and she taught me both cookery and pottery. I don’t think she was terribly impressed by my cooking skills, I managed to demonstrate how to separate an egg beautifully, but forgot to do it over the bowl and dumped the contents onto her shoes. I also discovered the impossibility of returning salt through the tiny spout of the dispenser when you measure out 2tbl instead of 2tsp!!
Pottery however was a whole different ball game. I was addicted from the moment I made my first creation. Some of these are still displayed in my parents home many years later.
